We only go to Thunderlake to visit with friends who are camping for maybe a couple of days until the kids are tired of biking around. I am sorry that you were told that it has great beaches and fishing, the fishing was finished years ago and if you are brave enough to swim after walking through gull crap then you need to have salt with you and shower immediately. Again, I am sorry you went there with those expectations, if your family loves water, fishing, biking and strolling like we do I would recommend cross lake, carson pegasus, wabamun, but not thunderlake, it is just for the camping lifestyle without the water fun.
