My family loves to visit Ricketts Glen. Although we prefer tent camping, we have only ever stayed in the cabins when we vacation there. We have driven through the campground, but it didn't appeal to us because of the openness of the campsites and the lack of privacy. We like to camp in the woods, not in the open. The cabins are clean and comfortable. The cabin area is very nice, and within walking distance of the lake, which has a sand beach and a concession stand offering standard beach-fare such as hot dogs and burgers and ice-cream. They also sell firewood. I absolutely love the beach at Ricketts Glen. It is clean, and during the summer the water is a comfortable temperature (not too cold like most mountain lakes). We spend hours just hanging out at the beach with the kids, swimming and making sand castles. From the cabin area, you can also access several hiking trails, including the popular but perilous Falls Trail. What makes this an ideal and relaxing place to stay is that you rarely have to get in the car, there is so much to do just a short walk away. Ricketts Glen is known for its many scenic waterfalls, most of which are accessible by the Falls Trail. We have never attempted this hike, because it is reported to be quite difficult and we have young children. There is a waterfall called "Adam's Falls" which is accessible by car- so that is the only one of Ricketts Glen's falls that we have seen. It is quite beautiful. The nearby town of Benton has a grocery store, a laundromat, and several restaurants should the need arise. The Benton Municipal Park is a nice place to take the kids while you are waiting for your laundry to be done- there is a playground and a river that runs right through the middle of the park. Also, last but not least, the park has many wild blueberry bushes. We picked a bunch to put in our pancakes one morning. Delicious!
