  Beautiful park

The park is gorgeous, heavily wooded with a fair amount of elevation change and radically changing flora around each bend and over every hill. The main waterfalls are easily accessed by well-groomed hiking trails. South campground is primarily for tents (the one E-site is for the camp host) and very shaded - and therefore damp in the spring/early summer. The hike-in sites, particularly the two furthest are excellent and for tent campers the lowest sites in the north campground are also excellent and the most isolated of the drive-in sites. There is a concession by the falls with limited daytime hours that has gifts, snacks and ice cream. Main shower/bathroom and pit toilets cleaned daily. Trail to the backpack site is brutal after a heavy rain. Good swimming beach and the lake is big and interesting enough for a worthwhile afternoon paddle in the canoe. Wildlife aplenty. Nearest town worth mentioning is a half-hour away but there is gas and a small grocery store just outside the park in Mellen.
